1 〔犯罪を〕 commit 《a crime》; perpetrate 《an atrocity》; 〔過ちを〕 make 《a mistake》; commit 《an error》; do 《something wrong》.

●彼女は殺人を犯した. She committed (a) murder.

・彼は夫のある女性と過ちを犯した. He misbehaved [committed an indiscretion] with a married woman.

・そのとき私は単純なミスを犯してしまった. I then went and made a simple mistake.

2 〔決まり･法律などを〕 break 《the rules, a law》; violate [be in violation of] 《an ordinance》; infringe; offend against 《the norms of society》; transgress (against) 《the boundaries of decency》; contravene 《the guidelines》.

●禁を犯す violate a ban [prohibition]; break an embargo

・校則を犯す break the school regulations.
